Our School Community

At Tarro Public School, community is at the heart of who we are. We value strong, respectful partnerships with families and believe that children thrive when their school, family and community work together.

There are many ways to be part of our school community. Families can join our P&C, volunteer at events, share ideas, participate in consultation and celebrations, or simply stay connected with what is happening across the school.

Every contribution matters. Whether you can help regularly or only occasionally, we want families to feel welcomed, heard and involved.

Our P&C makes a real difference

Our P&C is a welcoming group of parents, carers and community members who work in partnership with the school to create opportunities for our students.

Through fundraising, volunteering and generous financial support, our P&C helps make school experiences more accessible and enjoyable for every child. Recent contributions have supported student transport, sporting and creative arts opportunities, cultural learning, camps, school events and the toys and resources that have brought Tarro Town to life.

The P&C also operates our school canteen and provides an important voice for families in the life and future of our school.

Join the P&C

Joining the P&C is a great way to meet other families, contribute ideas and help create opportunities for our students. You do not need to hold a committee position or attend every meeting to be involved—families are welcome to contribute in whatever way works for them.

Meetings are held in the library from 5.30pm on Wednesdays in Weeks 4 and 8 of each term. New members and visitors are always welcome.

Have Your Say

We want families to have a genuine voice in our school. Throughout the year, parents and carers may be invited to contribute through surveys, P&C meetings, consultation sessions, Personalised Learning Pathway conversations, Yarn Ups, school planning and informal feedback.

Your perspectives help us understand what is working well, where we can improve and what matters most to our students and community.

Culture, identity and connection

We value the knowledge, voice and involvement of our Aboriginal students, families and community.

Through Personalised Learning Pathways, Yarn Ups, our Junior AECG, cultural programs and connections with the local Aboriginal community and AECG, we work together to strengthen identity, belonging and opportunities for Aboriginal students.

Families and community members are warmly invited to contribute to cultural learning, celebrations and conversations that help guide our work.

Our Community Partnerships

Our partnerships help us create opportunities for students that extend beyond what the school could provide alone. By working with local organisations, services and other schools, we connect children and families with additional learning, wellbeing, cultural and transition support.

Through the Gateway Learning Community, our students participate in shared sporting, creative, academic and High Potential and Gifted Education opportunities, while also building strong connections with Francis Greenway High School. Our partnership with the Ausenco Foundation and Books in Homes provides every student with quality books to choose, take home and keep, helping families build their own home libraries.

We also work closely with the local Aboriginal community and AECG, Youth Express, Newcastle University and a range of community and wellbeing organisations to strengthen culture, identity, belonging and student support.

We are incredibly grateful to the organisations and community members who share their time, knowledge and resources with our school. These partnerships help us remove barriers, broaden experiences and create meaningful opportunities for every child.
