Stage 2 Excursion - Kamay Botany Bay

Date

31 October

Time

6:00 AM-5:30 PM

Location
Kamay Botany Bay National Park

About Two Cultures - Aboriginal & First Contacts Experience @ Kamay Botany Bay National Park This in-depth excursion allows students to explore different perceptions of Australian history, and understand the advent of European colonisation from an indigenous and European perspective. They get to put themselves in the shoes of historical figures in the very place where Australia’s history changed forever: Botany Bay, or Kamay, where the HMAS Endeavour landed in 1770 under the command of Captain James Cook. As they hear about the characters and cultures from the first contact event in Kamay, Applying skills of historical enquiry and communication students will be challenged to think critically about the lifestyles of Indigenous people prior to colonisation; the nature and consequence of contact between Aboriginal Australians and early traders, explorers and settlers. Students will also gain an appreciation for the incredible coastal landscape and bushlands and imagine what it was like to live here before, during and after colonisation.
